Disabilitease Festival 2023

Updated: Mar 28, 2023

A weekend of workshops and hot and heavy performances

The Disabilitease Festival is preparing for its fourth annual event from July 14th to the 16th.

The organisers are based in Minneapolis, Minnesota but the festival is a virtual event, which showcases alluring and glamorous burlesque, drag, cirque and cabaret performers with disabilities. Aiming to include a variety of disabled performers of diverse genders, sexualities, sizes, ages and abilities.

Cabaret and burlesque performers with disabilities have been especially shut out from performing in most mainstream events. This festival was started by performers Minda Mae, Lakota Shekhar and VaVa Vashti to allow disabled performers to express themselves to a wider audience and gain recognition for their talents.

Disabilitease is virtual in order to be accessible to as many people as possible from around the world. This has allowed performers, such as Noli Kat, from the Netherlands to participate despite being largely bed bound.

Other events include workshops via Zoom for performers, in addition to a variety of different acts.

More information regarding the upcoming festival can be found on their website disabiliteasefestival.com.
